About this course

Language acquisition courses at standard language profile (SLP) 1, 2, or 3 to meet defence requirements.

Course duration varies depending upon the complexity of the language being taught.

Courses are provided for students with a statement of training requirement. Spare capacity is offered to other applicants.

Cultural awareness will be acquired through delivery of the language syllabus

Deadline for military applications is twelve weeks prior to the course start date.

 Applications can be accepted after this date but accommodation cannot be guaranteed.

What you will learn

You will acquire language skills up to the SLP level required by defence. All foreign language training courses are underpinned by the NATO STANAG. Further information about international defence language training can be found on the Bureau for International Language Co-ordination website.

English speaking British nationals only.

Before you attend

You must complete the Modern Languages Aptitude Test, grammar revision and study skills awareness prior to arrival on course.

How you will be assessed

Students only requiring training to level 1 will sit the level 1 exam. All other students will sit the Ministry of Defence Languages Evaluation Board language exam.
