About this course
Formerly known and Knowledge and Information Practitioner Module 1, thiscourse will prepare you to provide effective first-line knowledge and information management (KIM) support to your teams. It will help you apply good information and records management (RM) practices, navigate defence collaborative environments, and contribute to consistent, compliant information handling across your units.
Please note this course is in extremely high demand. Applicants due to deploy on operations will be prioritised. Due to sustained demand, non-operational applicants should expect a waiting period of at least three months before allocation of a course place, unless exceptional circumstances apply.
It is essential to complete and return the priority form during the application process. If this is not completed the application will be automatically rejected.
What you will learn
You will learn/develop:
• an understanding of defence information policies and standards
• how information is organised and managed within collaborative working environments
• the application of naming conventions, permissions and metadata to support effective information management
• the principles and practices of RM within defence
• the importance of information quality and good information handling practices
• the role and responsibilities of the information support assistant (ISA) defined within JSP 441
• the structure and function of shared working areas
• how to administer and maintain SharePoint Online (SPOL) sites, including the creation and management of lists, calendars, picture libraries and document libraries
• how to support colleagues in applying effective KIM practices and maintaining compliant information environments
How this course will help your career
The course is aligned with ISA role description in JSP 441 and provides the foundation for a career in defence KIM.
This course is designed to support personnel working in, or preparing for, first line KIM support roles, including unit level ISA and staff in roles where they support colleagues in applying basic information management/KIM practices.
Completion of the ISA course is recommended before applying for the Information Support Officer course, but it can also be a useful adjunct to senior courses such as Information Manager and SIO.

Applicants must work in an iHub or similar.
Priority will be given to personnel going on operations.
Before you attend
Before you attempt ISA, you are required to complete the KIM Fundamentals course on the Defence Learning Environment (DLE) prior to attending the course. It is also highly recommended that you complete the RM course before attending ISA.

How you will be assessed
There are formative questions and exercises throughout the course to check understanding, and an online knowledge check at the end of the week. Students will need to demonstrate foundation level understanding to receive the ISA course certificate.
Military personnel will be awarded the ISA competence on JPA. Civil servants may record the qualification on their MyHR training record.
The certificate/competence may be required for other KIM courses.
