About this course
Formerly known as Knowledge and Information Practitioner Module 2, this course will prepare you to coordinate knowledge and information management (KIM) processes, support the implementation of defence information standards, and provide structured guidance to colleagues. Enabling effective information organisation and compliant working practices across your area of responsibility.
What you will learn
You will learn/develop:
• an understanding of defence information policy, governance and compliance requirements
• how information is organised and managed across collaborative working environments the application of file structures, naming conventions and metadata standards
• how to design effective collaborative working environments using SharePoint Online (SPOL) to support organisational information requirements
• permissions models and approaches to controlling access to information
• the importance of information quality and assurance
• methods for monitoring and supporting compliance with defence information standards
• the role of the information support officer (ISO) in coordinating KIM activities across a unit
• how to direct, advise and support information support assistants (ISA) in applying effective KIM practices
How this course will help your career
This course is aligned with the ISO role profile in JSP 441 and develops specialist skills for those pursuing a career in defence KIM.
The course is best suited to personnel working in, or preparing for, second line KIM roles, including those who coordinate KIM activities within units and those who may have some supervisory responsibility for ISAs.

Applicants must work in an iHub or similar.
Before you attend
Applicants should normally be working in, or preparing for, a supervisory KIM role.
Completion of KIM Fundamentals is required. Previous qualification, training or practical experience in information management, including the ISA course, is strongly recommended.
Personnel already undertaking ISO responsibilities, those with equivalent experience, or those whose line manager can confirm suitable SPOL knowledge and experience may be considered without prior ISA qualification

How you will be assessed
There are formative questions and exercises throughout the course to check understanding.
You will need to demonstrate good comprehension and application of the ISO skills and KIM concepts to be awarded the ISO course certificate.
Military personnel will be awarded the ISO competence on JPA. Civil servants may record the qualification on their MyHR training record.
The certificate/competence may be required for other KIM courses.
