About this course

This course builds the essential baseline understanding required before progressing to practitioner level knowledge and information management (KIM) training, helping you recognise how information behaviours, collaboration, and effective information practices support defence outputs and prepare you for more advanced KIM roles and responsibilities.

This is a self-study course available through the Defence Learning Environment (DLE). You will need to self-enrol onto KIM Fundamentals. 

Learning is self-paced; it is recommended that you complete the modules over a three day period to allow for consolidation.

What you will learn

This course will introduce you to KIM principles, concepts, processes and practices through self-paced learning and knowledge checks.

Throughout the course, you will develop an understanding of how effective KIM supports collaboration, decision-making and information advantage across defence.

How this course will help your career

Learning about KIM fundamentals will support you in the initial stages of working in defence KIM or requiring a refresher ready to undertake a KIM role.

The course is available to all personnel with access to the DLE.

Before self-enrolling on KIM Fundamentals, students should complete mandated data and protection training, in accordance with the latest guidelines

How you will be assessed

There are formative questions throughout the module to check understanding and a final knowledge check. You must pass the knowledge check to be awarded the KIM Fundamentals certificate. This may be required to proceed onto other KIM courses.
