Managing Defence in the Wider Security Context - Residential

This course is allocated to specific countries by DE Strat MOD through the Forward Allocation Baseline for forthcoming years.  Bids should be submitted through respective Defence Attachés or IPP/WEP desk officers.

You will be encouraged, along with the staff to take a critical review of potential options of how major defence issues are addressed by a range of countries.

You will be able to identify appropriate policies, principles and techniques to advance security sector development.

You will be expected to openly express independent critical judgement with regards problems and solutions within the forum of the course.

There are 7 modules of the course:

*security
*governance (including International Humanitarian Law)
*policy formation
*strategy
*leadership
*defence transformation and defence management

You will also examine change and risk management, national resilience, acquisition strategies, transparency and accountability and the international law of armed conflict.

You will visit the UK parliament, the Foreign Office, MOD and a front-line command as an integral part of your studies.

The course will broaden your knowledge at a key area of your professional development as your focus rises towards strategic management of national defence and security.  It will give you the potential to rise to influential positions within your national security organisations.
