Capability and Acquisition Course Manager
Beth Swinscoe is a Capability and Acquisition (CAPAC) Course Manager within the Defence Capability Management School (DCMS), part of the Defence College for Military Capability Integration (DCMCI).
Although she joined the MOD in January 2026, Beth is already helping personnel access the knowledge and skills needed to deliver capability more effectively.
As CAPAC Course Manager, Beth supports the delivery of professional development for capability and acquisition practitioners from across defence.
"The CAPAC portfolio brings together civil servants, military personnel, industry partners and international colleagues to build a shared understanding of the processes, policies and behaviours needed to deliver capability to the front line. My role is to ensure the right people are matched with the right courses, while promoting the wider development opportunities available through CAPAC and DCMS."
Working with students, directing staff, guest speakers and stakeholders, Beth helps ensure courses remain relevant, up to date and aligned with current priorities.
"By incorporating real-world case studies and examples, I help make learning practical, engaging and directly relevant to the challenges faced by capability and acquisition professionals."
Developing a broad understanding of the capability system and the professional development pathways available within MOD has been key to Beth's success in the role. However, she believes effective communication is equally important.
"Regular engagement with students, subject matter experts and stakeholders helps me understand what learners need from a course, allowing me to provide the right advice and support throughout their development journey."
Beth's work helps personnel access the training and education needed to better plan, acquire, deliver and sustain capability. In turn, this contributes to defence's ability to provide the equipment, systems and services required by the front line.
What Beth enjoys most about the role is the opportunity to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
"CAPAC brings together individuals from across defence, industry and our international partners, all with different experiences and perspectives. Every course presents an opportunity to learn something new, expand professional networks and deepen understanding of how capability is delivered."
Reflecting on her time at the Defence Academy so far, Beth highlights the people she has met as one of the most rewarding aspects of the role.
"Working within DCMCI and the CAPAC portfolio has provided a fascinating insight into how defence develops and delivers capability. It has also given me the chance to learn from colleagues of all backgrounds, reinforcing the value of collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous professional development."
