Cybersecurity Trainer
Ravinder Basra is a trainer at the Defence Cyber Academy (DCA), part of the Defence College for Military Capability Integration, where he delivers the Cyber Foundation Pathway (CFP). The CFP is a structured, accelerated curriculum designed to equip military personnel and civil servants with the skills needed to identify, exploit and defend against digital and network threats.
The pathway covers a broad range of cyber disciplines, including networking, cyber threats and vulnerabilities, Windows and Linux systems, Python programming, and attack-and-defence techniques.
“The diversity of courses we offer comes from a wide palette of subjects and specialisms. I enjoy meeting learners from a variety of backgrounds and skill levels and helping them achieve their goals. This is the most rewarding part of my role – seeing people succeed. The journey can be challenging, but it is incredibly rewarding.”
Ravinder delivers training primarily through face-to-face classroom learning, with courses ranging from a single day to two weeks in duration. This hands-on approach enables learners to engage directly with instructors, develop practical skills and build confidence in a supportive learning environment.
Since joining the DCA, Ravinder has focused on preparing members of the armed forces and Civil Service to meet the evolving challenges of cyber security. By aligning training with defence priorities, he helps learners build the knowledge and expertise needed to protect defence networks, counter emerging threats and pursue successful careers in MOD cyber roles.
“I am contributing to the DCA’s ambition to be a world-leading centre for cyber security education. The challenges we face continue to evolve, and my role has a direct impact on preparing people to meet and overcome them. Working with partners such as NATO further strengthens our reputation and enhances the quality of the training we provide.”
